Second Annual CGSA Beach Volleyball Tournament!
This year, the UConn CGSA and the UConn Undergraduate Communication Society cohosted the second annual beach volleyball tournament. Caturday Night Fever, Communist Block, How I Set Your Mother, and the Commquistadors spent the beautiful fall evening battling it out on the South Campus volleyball courts, and How I Set Your Mother emerged victorious after a heated best-out-of-three round against the runner-up team, Communist Block. The night was full of competition and fun, and the CGSA would like to thank everyone who participated in the tournament or came to show their support!
Tournament Champion: How I Set Your Mother
Team Members: Kim Embacher, Rory McGloin, Nate Martin, John Xeller, Linda Dam, and Amanda Denes

Beach Volleyball Tournament recap
Can you dig it? Kim
and the Roryettes can! On Friday, September
26th, the champions of the first annual Beach Volleyball Extravaganza ran the
courts, defeating three other teams in a round robin tournament. The tournament was the CGSA’s first event of
the fall semester – and it was a huge success!
Kim and the Roryettes went undefeated through the first
three rounds, beating The Leptokurtics, The White Walkers, and All the
President’s (Wo)men handedly. Facing off
against the second place Leptokurtics in the final round, Kim and the Roryettes
narrowly edged out their opponents, with a final score of 25 to 22. The championship team, captained by Kim
Embacher, consisted of Rory McGloin, Grace Presnick, and two non-department
members.

The tournament pulled in several spectators and last-minute
players, including Cindy and Dr. Nowak. Cindy
took the majority of the game pictures you see here, and Dr. Nowak was a clutch
addition to The White Walkers.
Though she couldn’t be there, Brenda Rourke kept us fed, providing
the most delicious chocolate chip and butterscotch cookies. And, thanks to all the participants and
donors, the CGSA earned enough money to plan more fun events for this semester!

Most importantly, the members of our department came
together and had a great time.
Once again, thank you to everyone who participates in and
supports the CGSA. It wouldn’t be nearly
as fun and we couldn’t do nearly as much without you guys. We hope you all continue to be awesome
supporters – and we hope to continue to give you reason to be. Check out our events page to see more photos
of this event, courtesy of Cindy.
